Frequently Asked Questions
Most commonly asked questions are listed here.
Arrival/Departure at School
The front doors unlock at 7:40 am, at which time students are welcome to enter the building and head to the gym for breakfast/before-school supervision. Elementary students are released from the western and northern parking lots on 19th St at 2:30 pm (1:30 pm on Fridays), and Middle School students are released from both of the main doors on 18th & 19th St at 2:40 pm (1:40 pm on Fridays).
Some Parking Lot Reminders:
- Please only let your students in and out of the car from the first lane (the one closest to the building) – the second lane should only be used for exiting the parking lot
- When you’re waiting in the first lane to pick up/drop off your student, please be sure to pull forward as far as possible to lessen congestion (just be sure to leave room for the bus at the very end of the first lane during after-school pick-up)
- Please park in a parking spot if you will be exiting your car – unattended vehicles should never be left in the drive-through lanes
- If you’re parking in a spot to drop off/pick up your student, please make sure they are using the crosswalks when going to and from the building
Attendance - Excusing an Absence
When your child is absent for either a full or partial day, it is very important to report the absence to the office by 9:00 am the day of the absence. In the interest of student health and safety, the office staff will phone parents or contacts who have not reported to us. Please call the attendance hotline: 541-757-5824, or send an email to [email protected]. When reporting an absence, please include:
- your name
- student’s name
- teacher
- nature of the absence
If you are prearranging an absence for another day, please include the date of the absence.
Closed Campus
The Franklin campus is closed from the time students arrive in the morning until dismissal in the afternoon. Students are to remain on school grounds during that time unless they have permission to leave from the office and parent/guardian.
Electronic Devices (Personal)
In accordance with District Policy JFCEB, students are not allowed to use personal electronic devices at school during the regular school day. As used in this policy, a personal electronic
device is a device that emits an audible signal, vibrates, displays a message, or otherwise summons or delivers a communication in any form to the possessor of the device. Examples of personal electronic devices include (but are not limited to) cell phones, electronic games, iPods, and mp3 players. A copy of the full policy is available in the school office.
Students are encouraged not to bring these devices to school. If the student and parents find it necessary for a child to have the device with them (for after-school destinations), the devices must remain turned off and not on their person while on the school campus. We encourage students to check in devices to the office for safekeeping. The District is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal electronic devices brought to district property or school-sponsored events.
Exceptions to this policy may include advanced authorization by the building principal for health or safety reasons, in the event of an emergency of imminent physical danger, or as necessary and provided for as part of a student’s IEP.
